9A- Testing The Hypothesis 2

Who:

- After interviewing 5 people that definitely have the unmet need I am discussing, I have a little bit more clarity. There were some people that I interviewed that noticed the need for a change in parking regulations at the University, however, they said that they are used to it by now and changing anything might cause more problems. Majority of the individuals that I spoke with thought that something definitely needs to be done, they just wouldn't know how to go about doing it. After all was said and done I think these individuals are thinking the same way I was before this class, that its just the way it is and nothing can be done to fix it.

What:

-I feel that people will definitely benefit from my solution. This is an unmet need that people know they have and they want something to be done about it. I think that my service would outshine my competitors because to my knowledge the University of Florida has no done very much to try and accommodate for parking for everyone. The University continues to build parking lots, however, they are not doing their best at trying to make the parking situation better for everyone.

Why:

-I think the main reason that individuals outside the boundary do not have the same need is because they do not live or work in Gainesville. These individuals do not have to worry about taking extra time to get to class or work everyday, or worry about not being able to find parking when they get there.

Inside the Boundary                                                                  Outside The Boundary
- Gainesville residents, University                                       -individuals who do not live in Gainesville,
of Florida students, Staff at UF                                              people just visiting
-Parking circumstances                                                         - Parking is not a need for these
-Longer commutes to work                                                    individuals
and school because of transportation systems                       -They are not parking at UF everyday

  1. Nice post Taylor! I can personally relate to this problem, as I live near campus and drive a lot. I liked how you pointed out how your interviewees thought like you before this class. It is interesting how your experiences can change your perspective so rapidly. One idea that I have concerning this situation is that there should be a way to see which parking spots are open, and which are not. If there was some way to put a camera to detect which spots are full and which are empty, and then log this information onto a website, or an app (sorry Professor Pryor), then people could recognize which spots are empty without having to drive around looking for them. This might not completely fix the parking situation, but it would save time for many people. Thanks for posting!

    1. Hi Taylor, it is clear there is a divide in those that feel there is an immediate need of resolution, and those that feel quite frankly that you have a ‘you problem’. What I mean by ‘you problem’ is, as you said those outside of the boundaries aren’t affected, and as such do not see an urgency for a solution. I found this to also be true in my research. The key to getting those on board that are otherwise unaffected, is to some how bridge this need gap. Your elevator pitch is one opportunity in your tool box to do so.

  3. Hey Taylor!

I can relate strongly to what you said in your post, specifically the part about your target audience feeling that "nothing can be done". Although my chosen opportunity is different, there were a lot of people I interviewed that felt that the unmet need is more the responsibility of the individual and do not see a probable solution. I wish there was some way to help with that sort of mentality. If people are in need, they should seek solutions and not just learn to cope. This is what innovation and entrepreneurship is about!

  4. Hey Taylor, enjoyed reading your post! I think that this is a huge issue you're tackling and one that effects just so many people. I feel like this second testing of the hypothesis really helps you define your boundaries and I think you have really great ones set here. What's even better is that not only do you know who's outside your boundary but you also identify why they're outside your boundary. Great post!
