Assignment 6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Hello everyone,
Today I am going to be finding entrepreneurship opportunities in social and economic trends.

1) Find Four Opportunities

1- Baby Boomers Are Not Retiring
2- Climate Change Is Causing More Natural Disasters
3- Marijuana Legalization
4- Sexual Harassment Prevention

2) List Each Opportunity One At A Time

1- Baby Boomers Are Not Retiring
a) I found this trend on https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666.
b) I believe there is an opportunity here because the article specifically states a problem. Millennials are having a harder time finding jobs because the baby boomers are not retiring, due to financial reasons.
c) I think the individuals that will be looking for a solution to their problem are the millennials, as well as the baby boomers. The baby boomers need more out of their retirement in order to survive without working. The millennials need to start making money so that they can eventually retire.
d) I do not think this will be an easy problem to try and solve, because there are so many legal issues that need to go into it. My idea is maybe making some kind of program to help the baby boomers try and retire.

2-Climate Change Is Causing More Natural Disasters

b) I think that there is opportunity here because this is a serious issue that is causing a lot of people to lose money and even their lives. there is evidence that shows climate change has caused more natural disasters and although we can not go back and revert climate change something can definitely be done to prevent it from getting worse.
c) I think the people that would benefits from this opportunity would be people all over the world, as well as future generations. There are many things that will benefit from this, the government being a big one.
d) I do not think this change will be easy. I think it will consist of laws that need to start being followed in order to prevent climate change.

3- Marijuana Legalization
a) I found this trend on https://www.paychex.com/articles/compliance/top-regulatory-issues.
b) I see potential in this opportunity because there are so many things going on right now with the legalization of marijuana. When I think about the legalization of marijuana I think of the people that are using it for medicinal purposes, however, this is not the case in all states.
c) I think the people that will benefit form this opportunity are individuals in the U.S that may need marijuana for medicinal purposes or even for recreational use.
d) I do not think this will be an easy opportunity because I think it is one that is going to take time.

4- Sexual Harassment Prevention
a) I found this trend on https://www.paychex.com/articles/compliance/top-regulatory-issues.
b) I see a lot of opportunity in this regulatory trend because sexual harassment is so important. The first thing that comes to mind is people getting in trouble for sexual harassment when they did nothing wrong. Another thing that comes to mind is people not being taken seriously when they claim they have been sexually harassed. There is no happy medium .
d)I do not think that this would be an easy opportunity because it would be an extremely long process to try and figure out where the happy medium is.

I think that when looking at each of these opportunities everyone might see something different. For example I see opportunity in the legalization of marijuana. For all the individuals who perform jobs that require them to have drug tests, marijuana legalization is not even a thought in their mind, because even if it was legalized they can not do their job while under the influence. As a pre-nursing student I think this is why I saw this trend differently. As for sexual harassment being a nurse, I am sure I will see a lot of it and this is the reason I saw opportunity in this trend.

    Hey Taylor, great post! I ran into the same conclusion that you did in my blog post. There absolutely seems to be an opportunity with every global issue occurring, but since these issues are so wide-scaled, it would be very difficult to implement solutions. I also find it interesting how we all view opportunities differently. You saw some opportunities that I may have because you perceive the world differently than I do. Overall, great post!

    Hey Taylor, nice post! I saw that you and Justin both wrote about the Baby Boomers predicament. I thought that each of you had a good analysis of the article and I definitely agree that this will be a problem in the near future that someone could take advantage of. I really liked your reflection on sexual harassment prevention, the line "there is no happy medium" is perfectly fitting yet so unfortunate. One thing that I think could have been improve in the post was to elaborate more on your ideas. That being said, it was refreshing to read an article with such brevity and concision. Sometimes length of an article can be a difficult thing to balance, as you said, there isn't really a happy medium.

    Hey Taylor,
    I agree that the Baby Boomers issue could be a big opportunity. This is a huge unmet need that will eventually start to affect those of us who are part of Gen Z. I'm not quite sure about how to help with the Baby Boomers retirement, but maybe in the meantime more online jobs could be made for Millennials since they are more tech savvy. Hopefully something gets done soon!

I think all of the articles that you chose are also perfect examples of what the assignment was asking for. I really liked your articles you chose about the global climate as that has an effect on just about everything. I think you did a really good job with this blog post and I look forward to reading more posts from you in the future.

Assignment 26A- Celebrating Failure

1) For this specific assignment, I would like to think outside the box. I want to think outside of this class, because although I have failed and made mistakes in this class, the world is bigger than just school. At the beginning of this semester I was failing a lot when it came to finding a place of employment. I went from place to place with a resume just begging for an interview. I tried for many weeks for someone to just give me a chance. Eventually an opportunity came up and I am very grateful for that. 2) I learned a lot from this failure that I experienced. Thinking, Fast and Slow By: Daniel Kahnman 1) what was the general theme or argument of the book? The general theme of this book discussed the different ways that people think and make discussions. This book give tips on how to get better at decision making. This book goes in depth and explains why people make decisions differently. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
