13A- Reading Reflection No.1

I have chosen to do this assignment on The Wright Brothers, David McCullough. I found this to be very interesting to me

1)
-What surprised you the most?
I think what surprised me the most about the Wright brothers was how determined they were to make their aircraft fly, they did not give up and that shows that they were truly passionate about their work
-What about the entrepreneur did you admire?
What I admired most about the Wright brothers was also what surprised me the most. There are many people in the world that will just give up when things do not go exactly as planned, however, the Wright brothers did not give up on their project. I also loved the fact that because they watched birds they were able to figure out how to make the plane turn.
- What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
I don't think that they was anything the Wright brothers did that gave me a bad taste in my mouth. The only think that I could say some people might not have liked was their determination because sometimes that can come off as cocky.
-Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
The Wright brothers most definitely experiences failure and adversity, however, they did not give up. The Wright brothers figures out a way to make it work and prove everyone that doubted them wrong.

2) The Wright brothers were very good at running into problems and figuring out how to fix it very soon. The Wright brothers had a lot of knowledge and they definetely put that to use. Of course they had many trial and error runs but I think that is the best way to do things. Before you can figure out what works you have to figure out what doesn't

3) Some of the terms that were used were a little bit confusing to me. When it comes to aviation and how all of that stuff works I am not very good at it. It is definitely something that I would learn to love about though.

4) I would definitely ask the Wright brothers why they were so determined and where that drive comes from. I would also ask them if they every truly wanted to just give up. They completely changed the game and I'm sure they looked back at that and are thankful that they never gave up.

5) Their opinion of hard work was never settling and I most definitely think that this is somewhat that we have in common. I don't think that anything is ever perfect and things can always be improved.

  1. Hey Taylor,

The entrepreneur I read about also had similar traits to yours. Not only did he (Ray Kroc) devote his time towards the McDonald’s franchise, but he also never gave up when it came to every entrepreneurial opportunity that came his way. It is clear to me that this shared trait between Kroc and the Wright brothers was essential in the success of both of their opportunities.

    Great work!

  2. Hey Taylor, after reading this post, it is clear to me that there are personality characteristics that are integral in order to be an entrepreneur. One characteristic that the entrepreneurs that you and I read about contain is unwavering perseverance, almost to the point of seeming arrogant. I thought it was intriguing how you commented that the Wright Brothers seemed somewhat cocky about their idea, because I felt the same way about Phil Knight. While I initially thought this was a distasteful characteristic of Knight, I now believe it is the unavoidable, yet indispensable "pitfall" of the successful entrepreneur.
