8A- Solving The Problem

The opportunity that I have chosen to work with is regarding the parking circumstances at the University of Florida. Although everyone might not express their concerns about the parking, after interviewing many different people it has become clear to me that many individuals find the parking at the University to be difficult for both on campus and off campus students.

The solution that I want to propose is simple. After driving around Gainesville and looking at the parking lots the solution seemed pretty clear to me. Here at the University of Florida there are many students, staff, and even hospital employees. Each of the parking lots is assigned a decal and if you do not have this decal and you park there you will receive a ticket. There are about 5 or 6 different parking decals at the University.

There was one summer semester here at the University that I noticed the Norman Garage on campus was changed to every red decal instead of just red one. I think the University should change the parking lots every semester. so for example one semester the parking lot will be only red one and then the next semester the parking lot can be all red or maybe orange. I think by doing this the University will be making the parking for everyone more fair. I have noticed that some people do not even spend the money on a decal because they can never find parking anyway.

  1. Hey Taylor! I think that you have identified a great opportunity here. I have a bunch of friends here who would be able to back you in saying trying to park on campus is one of the biggest stressors in their everyday life. I don't have a car, but driving around with my friends, I know how agitating it is to be looking for a place to park and there being virtually nowhere to go. I think your solution makes sense, I think there should be more availability for student parking. I feel that there should definitely be reserved spots for some people (faculty, staff), but there should be more parking for students. Great post!

  2. Hey Taylor! I think you have found a very interesting oportunity. Parking lot is a big problem for UF students and I feelthey are annoyed about it because some of my friends always complain about it. Even though they have cars, they cannot find a place to park a car so they always have to walk. I think your idea is really interesting. It will make the parking lot more fair and I think it doesn't cost a lot and isn't time-consuming. I think your idea will help to lessen this problem. Great job!

  3. Hey Taylor, the opportunity that you are talking about here is definitely a really good one. I also really enjoyed reading your previous blog post first and now this, as I can see how you've gone from interviewing people about the problem into talking about a way how to solve the problem. There's no doubt that everyone here at UF will agree with you about the campus parking being a huge problem. I bought a campus decal for my freshman year, but it always ended up being that when I found a spot I would never move my car because I didn't want to lose it. Really good job!
