3A- My Entrepreneurship Experience

My Entrepreneurship Experience

Hello everyone,
Today I am going to take about one of the experiences I have had with entrepreneurship. I am currently an Innovation Academy student at the University of Florida. In the spring semester of my freshman year, I participated in a class that required my group and I to make a prototype of an object. We were to present this project to a committee and receive feedback on our product. I realize that it is only the beginning of this class (ENT3003), however, it has already been made clear that my group and I made so many mistakes when it came to the creation of this product. One of the things that I want to share from my experience, is not truly thinking out our target audience. The product that my group came up with was something called "Drinky Pods". We designed this eco-friendly product to target college kids, not realizing that college aged kids will most likely not want to spend the extra money for an eco-friendly product. The Drinky Pod is basically tea in the shape of an ice cube. You heat up your water and them place the pod in the water. The pod acts in place of the tea bag, eliminating the products that harm the environment. I believe that there are many things that we could have done differently when it came to the creation of this product.
I would be lying if I said that I registered to take this class for any other reason than because it is required for my minor in innovation. When this class first began I was skeptical about what I would learn and if I would enjoy it. We are only about 3 weeks into the semester and I can truthfully say that I have already learned a lot more than expected. I really think that I am going to enjoy this class and all that it has to offer. I hope to learn a lot more about entrepreneurship.

  1. Hey Taylor. I really liked your blunt honesty when talking about why you decided to take the class. I think many people would try to fabricate an explanation to this, but they usually end up sounding completely dishonest. In response to the product you designed, I completely agree with the financial aspect of it. College students will almost never be willing to pay a premium for environmental reasons. Additionally, I think many people that claim to be environmentally conscious flake from their "values" when faced with a higher price. This speaks to the fact that actions really determine peoples characteristics, not words. Thanks for the post!

  2. Taylor,
I really enjoyed reading your blog post because it was more than a reflection, but an actual critique of your past experience based on the knowledge you've learned from the course. It also takes a lot of courage to admit the mistakes you've made. I personally enjoy the idea of your group's innovation and feel that it could potentially succeed with a few changes, such as reaching to an older audience, especially since tea is popular for a broader age group than just college students.
