Assignment 21A-Reading Reflection No.2
How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, Scott Adams
This book discusses the Scott Adams and how even if you continue to fail you can remain a winner, because failing can lead you to success. He discusses his life experiences and describes how failing is a main reason that people become successful, people need to fail and learn from their mistakes in order to succeed.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
I think what I learned from the book related a lot to what I have learned so far in ENT3303. We have heard the professor say this again in again that failure leads to success because it is all about trial and error. In this book the point is made that people have certain skills that they are good and bad at. Everyone has something that they are naturally talented at, however, I think anyone can be successful at whatever they put their mind too. life is all about trail and error if you don't make mistakes, then you cannot learn from them.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
If I had to make an exercise for this is would definitely involve something that included a trail and error exercise. I think students should be given scenarios of failure and they would need to figure out how they would recover from that failure. I think that this would teach the students how to think critically and teach them lessons that they would not have learned before. I think this exercise would be extremely beneficial to students.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
It was unique to me that in this book failure is encouraged rather than frowned upon. I think a lot of individuals grow up thinking that failure is not okay and many people think that they will be punished for failure. In this book failure is encouraged because failure can make you grow. I think it is extremely important that more parents and more company managers should not punish people for making mistakes because you learn from your mistakes and how can you learn if you do not make mistakes.
Hey Taylor!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your personal beliefs about failure and trial and error; Without mistakes there is nothing to learn from. As a kid when I started getting into drawing, I made horrendous mistakes, but without them I wouldn't have tried to get better. A few years later and now I run my own art page and do commissions! Failure is definitely a key part of success. Great work!
