Assignment 26A- Celebrating Failure

1) For this specific assignment, I would like to think outside the box. I want to think outside of this class, because although I have failed and made mistakes in this class, the world is bigger than just school. At the beginning of this semester I was failing a lot when it came to finding a place of employment. I went from place to place with a resume just begging for an interview. I tried for many weeks for someone to just give me a chance. Eventually an opportunity came up and I am very grateful for that.

2) I learned a lot from this failure that I experienced. When I was in high school and living at home, I had jobs but I never had to put myself out there to get them because they were friends of friends and I had never even had to sit for an interview. I learned from this experience that finding a place of work can be extremely difficult, because not everyone is looking to hire at that particular moment and not everyone is going to like you. While, yes it was nice to be able to walk in somewhere in high school and have a job handed to me, that did not teach me anything. Going from door to door, asking for interviews taught me something. This experience taught me perseverance and it taught me that if I continue to work towards something, eventually I am going to succeed.

3) I have always thought of failure to be somewhat of a good thing. I know that failure only makes you better, however, it does not make it hurt any less. I think more people need to realize that failure isn't personal, everyone is going to experience failure at one point or another and you just need to take it with a grain of salt and only learn from the experience. This class has only furthered my appreciation for failure, this class has taught me that failure is even more ok than I thought. Some of the greatest people have failed and without that failure they most likely would not be the greatest.

  1. Hey Taylor!

I am sorry to hear about your previous struggles with finding employment, I can also relate to that. However, I'm so glad you used the experience to realize your own competence and ability to succeed! That really is such an important way of thought that you have to teach yourself after dealing with so much rejection. Now that you've gone through this, I'm sure you'll have an easier time finding a job in your future career. Great work!

  2. Hi Taylor,
Thank you for being so vulnerable for this assignment. I believe you hit the nail on the head for what Professor Pryor expected. I especially enjoyed hearing your philosophy as it pertains to failure. I too perceive failure to be a good thing/ A natural honing of skills is what I liken it to be. Interviewing for jobs and the job search in general has got to be one of the most emotionally overwhelming processes one can undertake. Thankfully you’ve learned to master perseverance from the occurrence. You’ll need tons of it as you progress in this sector. Congrats on completing the course!
